Course manager's responsibilities regarding the submission exam.

When responsible for a submission exam, it is important that you:

- Before the submission exam
  • If there are several teachers and/or external examiners please send a list to Student Affairs and Programmes ( with a complete list of which students are examined by which teachers and/or external examiners.
  • define the size limit and appropriate dimensions of the exam paper in each case. Be aware, though, that there is a general 5 GB file size limit.
  • decide on the type of file that is to be submitted.
  • inform the students of the number of characters per page, if you have any requirements
  • decide whether or not you wish to make use of random fraud control*

- After the submission exam
  • assess exam assignments with external examiner and return examination record to Student Affairs and Programmes within 3 weeks from exam day

* Random fraud control is a way for you to control if the students have cheated at home during the exam. After the submission you will receive the names of approximately 20% of the students that are to partake in the random fraud control. The names will be given to you by the exam office, who will randomly select the names of the students.
Normally the random fraud control will begin an hour after the submission deadline, and it is your responsibility to contact the students and let them know which of them is among the 20%, and when and where they need to show up (typically at ITU).

When to submit

General exam submission deadlines appear from Semester Overview in the Study Guide.

Be aware that you will only find submission deadlines for bachelor projects on the bachelor pages; submission deadlines for master's theses on the master of science pages etc.

Specific exam submission deadlines (for specific courses or projects/theses) appear from the course description or project agreement.

Be advised that the deadline for submission is for a completed submission. A submission initiatied before the deadline, but not completed, will not be accepted.

Where to submit
All kinds of written work must be submitted digitally via learnIT.

In rare cases, exam submissions or specific parts of exam submissions cannot be digital. These cases, and how they should be handled, are described in the file below.

What to submit

Students are informed in learnIT and on Study Guide that they can only upload their exam assignment once.

There are no binding rules at a more general level, but the Guidelines for students and teachers on
workload and project limits (PDF) will give an idea of the recommended size and workload for different kinds of exam papers.

Encountering system problems

In case of a system breakdown, the IT department will inform about the IT operation status.

Should system malfunctions prevent submission of work in learnIT, Student Affairs and Programmes will send out an email, and the students will have to submit their work by email to
Mails directed at this address cannot be more than 25 MB.
